Georgia Bound

It’s time.

Time to tell you all about our crazy adventure to Georgia.

It’s hard for me to believe we came off the field a year ago. And here we are, starting a life in Georgia.

Some say, “Oh, this will be nothing compared to leaving your life behind to backpack around the world” but I say… “This is the most radical life change I have made… so far”.

Back in the fall Ben and I both began to dream big dreams. I dream of putting U.S. teachers in the classroom in other countries providing unexperienced teachers with the tools and encouragement to speak the truth of the Father over their students while providing quality education. Ben dreams of a business that will fund both missionaries and ministries on the ground overseas. Both of us knowing that the Lord has called us to a season of preparation we started new jobs, I as a first grade teacher and Ben doing carpenter work with a friend. Little did we know the Lord had plans for us to venture out to some uncomfortable waters to help us prepare for our future.

The Lord spoke pretty clearly during these months. It was time…

In January Ben moved to Gainesville for a new job with Adventures in Missions as a Squad Mentor. He (We) rented a house, got a few missionary roommates for Ben and I moved in the basement of some close friends in Greer to finish out the school year. We sold our house in Greer, bought a 1999 honda for a thousand bucks and we were in business! IT all sounds very exciting but to be honest it was a very trying time. Marriage was not designed for two people to live under different roofs, much less different states. But we prevailed. Honestly, the Lord used this time to sharpen us as a couple. He was teaching us to fight for time together, to fight for over communication, and to fight for a Christ centered long distance relationship. It worked for us. It worked because the Lord was clear on His plan and we knew we had to obey.

While Ben started his new job I took the time to prepare for new jobs for myself. I applied and jumped through ALL THE HOOPS of getting my GA teaching certificate. I received my certificate Mid January and couldn’t have been more excited, but only for a moment!  As much as I love teaching, as much as I can’t imagine myself not in a classroom, something was different this time. I took some time to pray and seek wise counsel and started exploring other fields that could help prepare me for my dream of helping teachers.  Adventures in Missions reached out and presented me with a Job that was a perfect fit for me. I interviewed and accepted the position to be an interview specialist.

Fast forward and here we are.. Georgia. I start my new job on Wednesday July 1st.  I can’t believe we made it here. I am excited to see how these jobs will prepare and teach us for the things to come.
